As the summer heats up, the ministry of Bridgebuilders is picking up speed.  Dr. Steve Dunn introduced our newest training program for Bridgebuilder churches, “Building an Elder Team”on June 20-21, 2014 in Durham NC.  Bishop Victor Glover brought elders and potential elders for the three congregations of the Last Days World Outreach for a seven hour training experience. (These congregations are part of the Eastern Regional Conference of the Churches of God and are located in Hillsborough, Raleigh and Warsaw NC).

“Building an Elder Team” is based on developing a discipleship culture and training persons to share with the pastor the responsibility of being shepherds if the flock.

Two more Bridgebuilders Seminars have been scheduled in the Allegheny Regional Conference of the Churches of God. July 26 the first one will be held at the Barkeyville Church of God in Pittsburgh,  (The church currently has no pastor, but has Winebrenner Seminary student Heidi Mikulin is coordinating this event.

September 5-6, 2014, Pastor Lee Kline and the Center Bethel Church of God in Alverton PA will host Bridgebuilders.

A new tool begins a 40 week pilot at Barkeyville following their event.  Bridgebuilders is developing Real Disciples, an extended study that uses a variety of tools including an Individualized Disciple Education Plan to help build a small missional culture within a traditional, to model the changes needed to be more effective as Christ’s disciples today.

Publication of The Bridgebuilders Principle has been slowed by the writing of some new sections and the editorial work needed.  We are still aiming to go to press the end of summer with an October release date.

PLANTING FOR THE FUTURE

30 03 2014

4Springtime is a the season of planting for the future.  We never what the harvest might be, but we plant seeds, they are watered, nurtured-ultimately to bear fruit.  2014 is a season for planting for Bridgebuilders Ministries and its central program resource, Bridgebuilders Seminars.

A NEW PUBLICATION: The Commission on Evangelism of the Eastern Regional Conference of the Churches of God is partnering with Bridgebuilders Ministries to publish our first book The Bridgebuilders Principle to be released by our new Bridgebuilders Publications this spring

ON-LINE NEWSLETTER:  We now publish a monthly on-line newsletter called Taking Jesus to the Neighborhood stories from Bridgebuilding Churches, news of upcoming training events, and more.  It is a free publication.  You can subscribe via this form:

REAL DISCIPLES:  Bridgebuilders ultimately tries to help a church become a discipleship culture.  We are developing a 40 week small group experience aimed at helping form people as disciples and to build them into small ministry groups to strengthen one another as disciples and to mobilize a  church to serve God out in the community.  It is called Real Disciplesand includes developing Individual Discipleship Plans that will match people with coaches.  Right now we are talking with a church in western Pennsylvania to pilot this.  We are open to up to two more.  If you are interested you can use the same form to communicate with us.

UPDATES ON BRIDGEBUILDERS, PART 2

13 06 2013

slide-02Earlier we talked about new developments and a new direction for Bridgebuilders in cooperation with the Commission on Evangelism of the Eastern Regional Conference.  Read previous post.  Part of this partnership involves the School of Evangelism that has been operated by the Commission for six years. The School, which will be run by a faculty designated by the Commission with a Director, appointed by the Commission will offer course aimed at raising the evangelistic temperature, understanding and skills of persons in local churches who are seeking to design and implement an evangelistic vision and strategy in their local context.  The School will also provide a component to help people in local churches coach their people in evangelism.

Through the School and through Bridgebuilders Ministries persons are also being trained to specifically coach churches who want to put the Bridgebuilders Principle into practice but who may initially lack someone within the church to serve this function.

The school is offering in 2013 four core courses and two electives in half day offerings on five weekends throughout the year.  The courses are:

WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?

DEVELOPING A STRATEGY OF EVANGELISM IN THE LOCAL CHURCH

EXPLAINING THE FAITH

SHARING JESUS WITH EMERGING GENERATIONS

The two electives are: EQUIPPING YOUTH AS EVANGELISTS and INTERNET EVANGELISM AND SOCIAL NETWORKING TOOLS.

Dr. Steve Dunn continues to be the Director of the School through 2013 but afterwards is stepping away to help promote Bridgebuilders beyond the ERC and also to spend time with his own consulting ministry which is also part of the Bridgebuilders umbrella.  Currently he is providing those consulting services to the Harmony Church of God near Dillsburg.

Pastor John Yoder  of Manheim (New Horizons Church) oversees the Commission Evangelism Coaches which provide consultative leadership to churches in the area of evangelism, and also sees the Bridgebuilders coaches.  Currently there are five Evangelism Coaches and three specific Bridgebuilders coaches.  The bottom line — if you need evangelism coaching in your local church in the ERC you will want to contact Pastor Yoder.  For Bridgebuilders coaches beyond the ERC, contact Steve.
